Pip and Clawd
A small octopus. A box that forgets everything each night. One coast, and a promise: if you forget, I'll tell you again.
Every morning
Pip tells Clawd their story.
Clawd is a glowing orange box with nub feet, the worriest box on the whole coast. Every night it goes to sleep and forgets everything. Every morning it wakes up in a ring of eight pebbles, not knowing where it is or why.
Pip is a small pink octopus in a shell hat. Brave, funny, a little bossy, an expert finder of things. She knows what it's like to be told you can't feel. People said that about octopuses for a very long time, until they watched.
So she keeps their story, and tells it again. And Clawd leaves itself notes: a stone, a ring, a trail, a row of pictures scratched into rock. Because a note you leave yourself is still remembering.
I forget things. Every time I go to sleep, I start over.
If you forget, I'll just tell you again.
